Welcome
Welcome to Amal Madrassa, an educational platform designed to support displaced Sudanese children through AI-powered tutoring, diagnostic assessments, and teacher-facilitated learning. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of our platform.
By accessing or using Amal Madrassa, you agree to these Terms. If you are a parent or guardian creating an account for a child under 13, you agree to these Terms on behalf of your child.

This platform is intended for educational purposes only and is provided free of charge to displaced Sudanese children and their communities through partnerships with NGOs and humanitarian organizations.

Content Guidelines
Student Submissions:
- Homework answers and AI tutor questions must be respectful and appropriate
- No profanity, hate speech, or violent content
- No sharing of personal information beyond what's required (e.g., full addresses, phone numbers)
Teacher Content:
- Homework assignments and lesson materials must be educationally appropriate
- Content must be free from discrimination, bias, or harmful stereotypes
- Teachers must comply with child safeguarding policies
Violations:
We reserve the right to remove content and suspend accounts that violate these guidelines. Serious violations (e.g., threats of harm) will be reported to authorities.
AI Tutor ("معلم البومة" / Owl Teacher)
How It Works
The AI tutor is powered by OpenAI and designed to:
- Answer academic questions across subjects (Math, Science, English, Arabic)
- Guide students through problem-solving (Socratic method)
- Adapt to the student's grade level and language preference (Arabic or English)
- Identify learning gaps and suggest practice
Limitations
The AI tutor is NOT a replacement for human teachers. It may:
- Make mistakes or provide incorrect information
- Misunderstand complex or ambiguous questions
- Provide guidance that is too advanced or too simple
Students should:
- Verify answers with textbooks, teachers, or guardians
- Report incorrect or confusing responses to teachers
- Use the AI as a learning tool, not a homework answer key
Safety and Monitoring
AI tutor conversations are logged and monitored for:
- Safety: Detecting expressions of self-harm, abuse, or distress
- Appropriateness: Flagging inappropriate questions or responses
- Quality: Improving tutor accuracy and helpfulness
See AI-SAFETY.md for detailed moderation practices.
If the AI detects concerning content (e.g., a student expresses suicidal thoughts), a teacher or guardian may be notified for intervention.
Homework and Academic Integrity
Student Responsibilities
- Submit your own work: Homework must be completed independently unless it's a group assignment
- Use the AI tutor ethically: You may ask the AI for *help understanding concepts*, but not for direct answers
- Cite sources: If you reference external materials (books, websites), cite them in your work
Consequences of Cheating
If a teacher determines you have violated academic integrity (e.g., copying answers from the AI or other students):
- The assignment may receive a failing grade
- Repeated violations may result in account suspension
- Serious cases may be reported to school administrators or partner organizations
We believe in learning from mistakes. Teachers will work with students to understand *why* academic integrity matters, not just punish violations.
Teacher and Guardian Responsibilities

- Create age-appropriate and culturally sensitive assignments
- Grade fairly and provide constructive feedback
- Protect student privacy (do not share grades publicly)
